Broken Pieces (2024) – Album by Flumergex

Description

Broken Pieces by Flumergex is raw homebrewed alternative rock with trip-hop and classic rock flavors.

1. The album starts off with the darkly self-loathing “Too Much,” a pounding drumbeat distortion power chord homage to Nine Inch Nails and the 1990s in general.

2. This is swiftly followed by probably the grittiest cover you’ve ever heard of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sounds of Silence” in a surprisingly harmonized and heartfelt rendition.

That’s the first two.  So look, I’m going to go have a snack, and you can take this opportunity to click over to another tab on your browser or whatever, and open up your favorite music streaming or digital download platform, and search for Broken Pieces by Flumergex, and give it a listen or download it (we recommend downloading because if you try to stream it the platform will only let you listen to a couple of the songs, and they won’t be the best songs, of course!)

All right, I’m back with the rest of the song list on Broken Pieces.

3. Meteorite — A song for all you science-loving sky watchers out there, “Meteorite” uses the metaphor of a falling star to explain the experience of “flaming out” in a social or professional situation.  Alternative rock with a bluesy sort of laid-back groove feel.

Update: New! now Meteorite has a video, too.  It’s pretty basic, but kinda fun, we hope you will enjoy it.

4.  Le Doleur de Vivre – Instrumental with melodic lead electric guitar solo

5.  You Can’t Do It Again – a funky foot stompin’ horn blowin’ rock rompin’ classic rockin’ celebration of the uniqueness of every passing moment… and the futility of regret

6.  Beautiful Heart — slow ballad sort of trip-hop adjacent almost electronica

7.  Party In My Mind — Jesse submitted this one for consideration on the soundtrack to a Marvel movie (they declined).  It’s a party, man.

8.  Passion Storm — swamp stomp

9.  Gonna Make It — this home studio sounds almost like we’re sittin’ round the campfire with an acoustic guitar, jammin’ out and singin’ about how we ain’t gonna stop until we get there, wherever it is

10.  Desolation Danger — With a wailing wah-wah lead guitar.  This tune brings the rock n’ roll frenzy!

11.  Opalescent Hues — dreamy stream of consciousness flow, so laid back you’re turning blue

12.  It’s Not Tricky — experimental funk electronica trip-hop that will be (maybe) the new favorite song on repeat for anyone who feels like they’re stuck in a dead end life

13.  That’s What — a sort of rock ballad about slowly figuring out where to go and what to do with your life

14.  Livin’ My Life — everybody’s got an opinion about it, but you’re the one who’s out there living it and doing your best, and this is the song you can sing along with to let the world know.  It’s kind of a party tune

15.  It’s Gonna Be Tomorrow — A hopeful grunge rock song?  The gritty vocal work on this heavy tune suggests that maybe looking forward to a better future is more habit than hope at this point, but no!  It’s gonna be tomorrow, dammit!  This song has unexpectedly turned out to be one of the most popular titles on Broken Pieces among the global online streaming audience.

16. There’s a Magic Around You  — the album’s one sweet love song.  The style is alternative rock with some pop influences and definitely a little bit of a retro vintage Beatles hearkening back going on there

17. I Play a Hero On TV

Funky alternative blues rock, this is this album’s clearest statement of a modern update to the Flumergex signature sound, if we had one.

This song has a music video:

The video was filmed at Silver Falls State Park, which was a lot of fun.  But no, obviously, the acoustic guitar you see in the video is not the raunchy electric guitar you hear in the recording, lol

18.  Broken Pieces — the epic funky sort of drum-machine driven prog rock exploration with synthesizers and electric guitars and all kinds of sh…tuff that concludes with a life-affirming call to action, “I’m gonna pick up all those broken pieces, and I’m gonna do something new with them!”

We at Basementia Records are really proud of Broken Pieces.  Like every album we’ve produced, it represents a stage in the artistic development of an eclectic musical project.  When it was released in 2024, the album Broken Pieces was the first new music by eclectic Flumergex in almost a decade.  Broken Pieces is also the first of all the Basementia albums to be made available on these newfangled streaming service things.
