Description
It’s always difficult when you love somebody, and then you meet someone else and you discover that you love them, too. But when you meet yet another person and you try to love all three, then things get complicated rather quickly: as Brandon discovers in this burning hot romantic satire by J.B. Livingsmore.
A disclaimer from the publisher
This is a truly terrible book. It’s one of those books like A Clockwork Orange and “anything by Dostoevsky” and Fight Club and The Battle of Hillsboro and, dare we even mention the name, Lolita, that the pearl-clutchers will still be shrieking about decades from now, banning it from the school library, gasping in horror if they see it disgracing your bookshelf, telling you how bad you are if you’ve read it, how immoral you must be if you enjoyed even a portion of it, how sick and disgusting and perverted you would have to be to even consider reading a book like this.
Having said all that, Indiscretion by J.B. Livingsmore is actually really pretty tame, comparatively speaking, in our opinion.
Do you really need to read all the rest of this marketing claptrap? I mean, it’s fine if you do, we hope it is kind of entertaining; but your time would be better spent reading Indiscretion, don’t you think? And then you can decide for yourself just what kind of a book it really is, and whether or not you think it is at all humorous. We hope you will find that it is.
Just go buy the book now, and you can come back and read all the rest of this later.
Indiscretion is available from all the usual major online book retailers, so you can easily just pop over there and search it up on your favorite platform; or if you prefer, you can click here to order your copy today at a promotional discount.
But what kind of a book is it, really?
Here at Basementia we’ve kinda had some trouble figuring out how to properly market or even categorize Indiscretion by J.B. Livingsmore.
It Barely Counts as “Erotica”
See, at first we thought we could simply market Indiscretion as “erotica” or “erotic romance,” and then it should automatically sell like hotcakes; but it turns out, this book actually has a lot more story (and a lot less sex) than the regular readers of that genre have come to expect from their erotica.
This is NOT “Dark Romance”
Then we heard of this new subcategory called “Dark Romance,” and we thought that classification might be a good fit, because Indiscretion is a story about people who make bad choices and behave badly; and that’s pretty dark, right?
But no, it turns out the readers of what they call “Dark Romance” mostly just want a certain very specific flavor of romance novel where the boyfriend character becomes so dangerously obsessed with the heroine that he behaves badly towards her. In other words, apparently Dark Romance is basically like, kidnapping fantasies kind of stuff; and one YouTuber even went out of her way to point out that the novels on her top ten favorite Dark Romance list all had absolutely “no cheating.”
Well, Indiscretion has plenty of cheating, but no kidnapping. Sorry, ladies!
So I guess, even though in one sense from a moral perspective you might argue that the (humorously related) story of Indiscretion gets pretty dark at times: even so, in another sense, this book is the exact opposite of the very very specific subcategory that somehow got named “Dark Romance.”
So what is it?
Here is the book blurb that we’re currently running on our distributor websites:
At first his new co-worker Nicole infuriates him with her insubordinate attitude; but over time, this flame of anger unexpectedly transforms into a spark that kindles something more… which is a problem, not only because they are co-workers, but also because Brandon already has a beautiful fiancee at home. But when Brandon clicks with Nicole’s roommate, the love triangle becomes even more complicated. Soon his life begins to unravel faster than he can pick up the pieces.
Root for the bad guy in this so-bad-it’s-good sexcapade, a steamy enemies-to-lovers tale of forbidden workplace romance; and watch how completely life can fall apart when bad decisions have their inevitable consequences.
Here is a list of all the text advertisements we have paid to run on our partner websites, to try to advertise Indiscretion to a wider audience.
“It’s so bad… but you know you’re going to do it anyway.”
“It’s so wrong… but you know you’re going to do it anyway.”
“Forbidden workplace romance is more exciting.”
“Blonde? Brunette? Redhead? Why not all three?”
“An erotic enemies to lovers love triangle… with a twist.”
“One loves him. One wants him. But he wants the third.”
“It starts cold, it gets hot, and it all goes up in flames.”
“Indiscretion. Reader discretion is advised.”
“There’s no HEA ending here.”
“Maybe ‘Romance’ is the wrong word for it.”
For some strange reason these advertisements failed to connect the book to a larger audience.
I Guess It Must Be Literary Fiction
What else remains? It’s not properly really “erotica,” because it only has a few kinky scenes; it’s not “dark romance” because the characters are ultimately too considerate to each other; it’s not even really “romance” at all because there is no HEA (Happily Ever After) ending!
Therefore, Indiscretion must by process of elimination be a work of literary fiction. Which is funny, because it’s intended to be the worst, most offensive kind of pulp; but apparently here at Basementia we’re highbrow even when we talk trash in the gutter. Well, la-di-da, aren’t we just “literary fiction” over here, I think I’ll go drink a dry martini in my classy bow tie.
