The Overlords of Tlegryth

Description

The evil Overlords have conquered the pastoral realm of Tlegryth! Can a ragged band of misfits and magicians join together to liberate the land?

A hairy farmboy named Dau Moth and his lovely love, the raven-haired Aswelia, must ask a wizard named Appletree to help them take on the might of the dreaded Emperor Vizzglyth, the evil Overlord who has installed himself in the castle and holds the entire realm of Tlegryth in terror of his power.  Following the wizened wizard’s advice, the young rebels seek further aid from underground demigods, a Rhasta dragon, and the Master Storyteller, among others.

In the best tradition of the Terry Pratchett-style fantasy humor spoof (with maybe just a little bit of Hunter S. Thompson on the side), the lively, unpredictable, vivacious, humorous storytelling of The Overlords of Tlegryth takes the reader on a joyous romp through a fantasy realm with all the trappings.

About the Book

Author Jesse S. Smith wrote his first novel in the summer of 1995, the summer before his Junior year of college.  Originally titled Impure Fiction, that early version of the novel follows the life of a somewhat bohemian college student as he parties with his friends, finds love, drafts essays for his college classes, attends a rock concert, and writes a fantasy novel in his spare time.

As a fresh young novelist, Smith composed the original draft of Impure Fiction with boundless energy, humor, and youthful exuberance: which is precisely why it will never be published in its original form.

Instead, the project was shelved for 25 years.

Then eventually Smith dusted it off, deleted all the embarrassingly semi-autobiographical (er, um, I mean, totally fictional) sections, and revised and expanded just the fantasy sections into their own standalone book, now retitled The Overlords of Tlegryth.

The only surviving excerpt from those original “college student” sections of the original Impure Fiction manuscript is a fictional draft of a fictional college paper about a fictional book by a fictional author who (in the story) wrote a collection of short stories, each told from a different perspective.  That piece found its way into a collection of short stories each told from a different perspective: and that book, titled Perspectives, is coming soon from Basementia, so be sure to buy it as soon as it becomes available.
